In New South Wales, vehicles that have aged beyond 5 years must undergo a comprehensive examination to establish their roadworthiness before re-registration. This examination is crucial to guarantee the safety and reliability of vehicles on our roads. It encompasses a thorough assessment of factors such as lighting, corrosion, tire condition, and mechanical integrity to ensure that the vehicle is fit for safe operation.
A Pink Slip Inspection, also known as an eSafety check, is a mechanical examination conducted by an Authorised Inspection Scheme station. New South Wales takes pride in maintaining a fleet of safe and up-to-date vehicles on our roadways. To accomplish this, each vehicle must undergo a meticulous inspection before renewing its registration.
During a Pink Slip Inspection, we leave no stone unturned, conducting a comprehensive assessment of your vehicle to ensure it meets all the requirements for roadworthiness in New South Wales. Some of the key areas we scrutinize include:
This Pink Slip Inspection is a vital step to ensure that vehicles on our roads are in a safe and roadworthy condition, promoting the safety of all road users.
You can schedule a Pink Slip Inspection at any time. However, it’s important to note that a successful inspection certificate remains valid for 6 months. If you choose to re-register your vehicle after this 6-month window has expired, you will be required to undergo another inspection.
If your vehicle fails the inspection due to an issue that cannot be immediately repaired, you will receive a ‘Repairs Needed’ report. This report lists the items that require attention. You then have a 14-day window to rectify these issues. If you return the vehicle for inspection within the 14 days, you won’t incur additional inspection fees. However, if the re-inspection takes place after this period, a fee will be applicable.
In the past, a small carbon copy slip was issued upon a successful inspection, giving rise to the term ‘pink slip.’ Nowadays, the results of a successful eSafety check are filed electronically directly to the Roads and Maritime Service. This means your inspection results are ready for you to use when renewing your vehicle registration.
A successful eSafety inspection result remains valid for 6 months. If you need to renew your registration beyond that period, you will be required to complete another vehicle inspection to ensure ongoing roadworthiness and safety.
In the event that you have modified your vehicle to utilise liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or compressed natural gas (CNG), or if you are in the process of renewing registration for a vehicle equipped with LPG or CNG, an annual inspection is mandatory. This inspection must be conducted by a certified gas fitter, who will subsequently furnish you with a gas certificate. This certification is a requisite component of the registration process for vehicles employing LPG or CNG.
